Air Beds:
| Air Bed Information! |
Air beds use air chambers instead of springs to give support. The prices of air mattresses can vary greatly on quality and use. Air beds can range from very cheap ones for camping and temporary places to sleep, all the way to luxury ones. Luxury air beds can include various combinations of latex and memory foam to help improve the quality of the sleeping surface. The prices are generally comparable to that of spring mattresses. Innovations in the air mattress industry have included the ability to adjust firmness, and the ability to set comfort for either side of the bed. There are many different air bed manufacturers that make air beds, including Select Comfort, maker of the Sleep Number Bed, one of the most recognizable in the industry. Although many companies boast about their air mattresses with advanced features, remember-simple is better. Air beds have their place in the mattress community, but as you start to get into more expensive models you should consider that for the same amount of money you could purchase a quality spring mattress, latex mattress, or memory foam mattress. If you do decide to buy an air bed don't be fooled by all of the hype surrounding air beds with futuristic additions. Make sure the air bed you choose has some basic qualities. Look for an air bed that will provide support by having a bladder between 6"-8" thick. Also, the pump on the air bed should be able to inflate the bed, and keep it inflated quietly. Another thing to look for in a quality air bed are supporitve side rails. A good air mattress will be able to support you if you choose to sit on the edge of it. If you do decide to buy an air mattress with a pillow top or a memory foam layer we suggest purchasing the bed with the memory foam layer. Pillow tops can be prone to breaking down over time, while the memory foam will stay intact.
